Meet the Team
As a lot of you may already know, Harriet’s plants started in Cornwall as a one woman show, selling house plants in pop up shops following Harriet’s degree course at the world famous Eden project. Since 2017 it has grown to include a few more faces and we thought it was high time we introduced you to the team.
Harriet’s Plants is committed to being an ethical and sustainable business, for full transparency, Harriet’s plants is proud to be an above living wage employer. The living wage is calculated yearly and based on the cost of living in the UK. This is different to the minimum wage, which is the legal minimum that workers can be paid. Harriet believes that everyone deserves to be paid fairly for the work that they do and the expertise that they bring. Harriet’s Plants also actively chooses to work with sustainable suppliers that are equally committed to fair and equal pay. Harriet believes that together we can make a difference to the world we live in and it is important that business owners take responsibility for their impact on the planet in every sense.
Meet Harriet
Founder of @Harriets.plants, I am happiest when I have my hands in the dirt and when I am grabbing a cuddle with one of my beloved dogs. I am on a HUGE mission to make the UK Peat Free. It is really important for me to run a sustainable and ethical business and I am very proud of what the business has achieved in the past few years.
On a personal level, I have this grand dream of living off grid, in the middle of no-where, with as many rescue dogs as I’m allowed by my side and a glass of wine in my hand. Cheers to grand dreams, growing my own food and life goals.
I’ve had the pleasure of doing a lot of travelling throughout my adult years and feel that living off grid, hiking mountains and swimming in the sea has always felt homely to me.
The glasshouse that Harriets Plants now runs out of is my safe space, my hopes and my living, all in one.
I’m so grateful for every single person that has now become a huge part of the Harriets Plants community. The glasshouse wouldn’t be where it is today without your support!!
Meet Alistair
Alistair joined the team in 2020 and is often found in the greenhouse making sure everything is watered and cared for. In 2021 he helped me plant so many house plants from seeds and cuttings and has nurtured them to the point they are at now. When he is not in the greenhouse Alistair is a Barista at my local coffee shop (@underpressureespresso) and has his own allotment to tend to in his spare time. It’s been a breath of fresh air having someone else in the greenhouse to bounce ideas around with and it’s been such a pleasure to work with him.
Meet Chloe
Resident designer Clo is the woman behind most of the graphic design bits here at Harriets Plants. With every purchase of a house plant you will see some of her work, through the packaging guides and the lovely care cards inserted in each parcel. She enjoys designing unique styles with Harriet and is at her happiest when she's in her creative element.
As well as working with Harriets Plants, Chloe also spends her time working on a small social enterprise and lectures in Youth Work.
Catch her on her socials @typecreatives or @clo_dg!
Meet Polly
In 2020 I put out a call out for a part time freelancer to help with marketing and growing the business. As a fellow small business owner and artist Polly took up the call to arms and the ‘dream team’ was formed! Polly has been helping me behind the scenes for the past year. Whilst I may be in charge of social media, most of the blog posts are written and researched by Polly and together we have some very BIG plans for the future. Polly will also be bringing a range of prints to Harriet’s Plants this year.
When she isn’t plotting a peat free revolution with me, Polly is a proud single mum to three year old Betsy and runs @origin.bespoke offering personalised drawings.
Thank you for reading all about the fabulous people that make up Harriets Plants. We all do this because we care so much for the environment and the world we live in.
