Why I love this plant

The roots have an extensive culinary and cultural history, especially in traditional medicine in Eastern Asia. It was used as a bittering agent in beer before hops, and its clinging nature provided the inspiration for hook and loop tape (Velcro). What can’t this plant do?!

———————————————————

Harriet’s tip

Why are all of our plants peat free?

We have never and will never use peat in the growing of our plants.

Harriet’s Plants is the first small scale, peat free, chemical free and 100% UK grown, planet friendly grower of houseplants. This means that I grow EVERYTHING within my glasshouse in Cornwall. The majority of growers are overseas and use peat as their main ingredients in their substrates.

Why virgin plastic free?

Harriets Plants uses no virgin plastic pots and instead recycles nursery pots from local garden centres to utilise for growing.
We also use coir pots, which are made from coconut fibres to create a 100% compostable and degradable pot over time. These coir pots are sustainably sourced and support women with fair paid work in Sri Lanka.

Why Chemical free?

Harriets Plants is against the use of pesticides and un-natural chemicals.

We grow our peat free houseplants following organic practices and never use harmful chemicals within the nursery.  We are a biodynamic houseplant and outdoor plant nursery that focuses on working with the natural environment to grow hardier and more environmentally friendly houseplants and outdoor plants to the UK.

What are 100% UK grown houseplants?

Did we mention we are 100% Cornwall, UK grown? All the houseplants and outdoor plants within the nursery are grown right here in the UK.  This means the whole process from seed sowing, propagating and growing a full houseplant, happens right under one glass roof. No plant imports take place at Harriets Plants.

What are Sustainable houseplants?

As a whole practice, Harriets Plants grows sustainable houseplants and outdoor plants for the UK.

This encompasses peat free, chemical free, virgin plastic free and 100% UK grown houseplants and outdoor plants. All of the plants on this website are sustainably grown and follow organic practices. The perfect gift for the eco warrior in your life.
